Caminito del Rey Winter Tickets: Official Admission vs Guided Tours, Prices & Sold-Out Options

Official Caminito del Rey tickets cost €10, or €18 with a guide, all winter. When to book the December–May batch, what tours from Málaga add, and what to try when a date is sold out.

Updated October 2026

Official Caminito del Rey tickets cost €10, and you do not need a guided tour to walk the cliffside boardwalks. Official guided admission costs €18. Full-day excursions from Málaga cost more because they add transport, a guide and a day that someone else has arranged.

If you have a car, the €10 official ticket is usually the best buy. If you are staying in Málaga without transport, an organised excursion can earn its higher price. If general admission shows as sold out, some legitimate operators hold their own allocations, although none can promise a place on a date the attraction has filled.

Winter adds one more check: rain and strong wind can close the route at short notice. Read the refund and exchange terms before you pay, while a gloomy forecast is still days away.

Other possible costs: the €2.50 M-347 shuttle day ticket, €2 parking at the official Visitors’ Reception Centre, fuel, trains, meals and supplements. Third-party products do not always include them.

Our recommendation: check the official booking system first. Pay more only if the guide, pickup, transport or booking terms are worth it for your trip. A higher price does not buy a better view, and it does not get you in on a day the route is closed for safety.

How much do official tickets cost in winter?

Official prices do not drop because your visit falls in January or February: €10 general, €18 guided. Both give entry to the same managed route through the gorge.

If you arrange your own travel and need the shuttle, admission plus shuttle comes to €12.50 general or €20.50 guided per person. Two adults with a car, paying €2 for reception-centre parking and €2.50 each for the shuttle, start from €27 general or €43 guided, before fuel and meals.

Those sums are a starting point. They only compare with an all-in coach price once you add every service the coach includes. You do not need to buy climbing gear: helmets are handed out at the entrance.

Option 1: official general admission (€10)

Best for independent travellers. The general ticket admits you at a reserved time to the restored walkways and the natural path sections, under the visitor rules. You walk at your own pace without a guide’s commentary. It is good value if you have a hire car or are happy with the train and shuttle.

Included: admission, the compulsory helmet and the visitor safety arrangements. Not included: transport from Málaga, a guide, the local shuttle unless you add it, and meals.

The path is managed and signed, so you need no climbing skills and no guide to follow the normal route. You still have to keep to the one-way direction, follow staff instructions and arrive for your entry time.

Downside: you get yourself to the northern control gate and arrange the return from El Chorro. You also miss the history and geology an official guide explains.

Our verdict: take general admission if you mainly want the views and can handle the transport yourself. Through GetYourGuide, the $16 entry ticket (4.8/5 from 5,582 reviews) costs more than the €10 official price; it is an option when you would rather book on GetYourGuide or the official calendar is full.

Option 2: official guided admission (€18)

Best for travellers who enjoy context. The official guided category includes a certified guide, usually in Spanish or English, in groups of 30 people at most, according to the official ticket page.

A guide explains the hydroelectric works that the path was built for, the restored boardwalks, the geography of the Gaitanes Gorge and the wildlife, including birds of prey. Many visitors find the walk more interesting with that background.

Official guiding is not a transfer from Málaga. The group meets at the ticket office at the northern access, so you still park or take public transport and walk to the gate. The shorter approach from El Kiosko is about 1.5 km, or 20–25 minutes, and you must be at the control point 30 minutes before your slot.

Our verdict: for €8 more, official guiding is good value if the story and the landscape interest you. If they do not, the €10 ticket is enough. On GetYourGuide, the $47 guided tour with shuttle and water (4.7/5 from 9,351 reviews) meets at the El Chorro end, adds the shuttle to the northern entrance and still needs you to get to El Chorro yourself.

Option 3: independent third-party guided walks

These are separate products sold by tour companies, not the attraction’s own €18 guided category. Guide languages, group sizes, meeting points and cancellation windows can differ. Some operators hold their own block of admissions, separate from the general-ticket allocation.

For example, the Caminito del Rey Experience: Accredited Guided Tour (from $34, 4.8/5 from 1,382 reviews) is a guided walk with entry but no transfer from Málaga. A walk that meets at the northern gate is a different booking from a day trip with coach pickup.

Compare the price, group size, whether entry is included, the guide’s language, the meeting point, whether the shuttle is included and the refund terms. If a pricier walk adds little to the official guided visit, the €18 option is the better buy.

Our verdict: check these for a language, a meeting point or a date the official calendar no longer has. A higher fee does not give you extra access rights.

Option 4: full day trips from Málaga

Best for visitors without a car. These excursions usually include a meeting point in central Málaga, a return coach or minibus, admission and a guide. You no longer have to line up trains, the local shuttle and the one-way exit yourself.

For example, compare:

Names, inclusions and cancellation terms can change. Confirm that the option you pick includes return transport and admission, and check the exact meeting point. “Pickup in Málaga” can mean a central bus stop, not your hotel door.

A complete tour saves a lot of planning, especially on a short winter stay or if you would rather not worry about the last train back. In return, you have less say over the pace and the afternoon.

Our verdict: often the easiest choice from Málaga without a hire car. If Caminito del Rey is your main interest, pick a direct excursion without extra stops.

Option 5: departures from the Costa del Sol

Visitors in Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola can often join a resort pickup without going into Málaga first. Marbella is on some pickup lists and Estepona rarely; our guide to Costa del Sol winter excursions compares them resort by resort.

Check whether “departure from your resort” means a set meeting point or collection from your hotel. The two are not the same. Some tours make several pickups along the coast, which can add a lot of time to the day.

The $62 tour from Málaga and the Costa del Sol (4.8/5 from 10,118 reviews) is one to compare. In Marbella, a private excursion can suit a group, but private transport does not make the controlled gorge route private.

When do winter 2026–27 tickets go on sale?

The attraction releases tickets in batches; there is no fixed rolling window of one or two months ahead. The release on 23 September 2026 covered visits from 7 December 2026 to 2 May 2027, with about 190,000 tickets on sale for that period.

November 2026 dates belong to the earlier batch. Check the official calendar for the entry times on your date. A future month with no tickets showing may simply not be on sale yet; it does not mean every place has gone.

Book as soon as you know your dates, especially for Christmas, weekends, families buying several tickets and English guided places. Winter does not mean you can turn up and get in.

How to book official tickets step by step

  1. Open the official booking platform.
  2. Choose general or guided admission.
  3. Pick a date and an available time from the calendar.
  4. Enter the number of visitors; general tickets are limited to 10 per purchase.
  5. Register or sign in, and give contact details you will see on the day. Closure notices can arrive by email or SMS.
  6. Check the date, time, ticket type and names before paying; voluntary changes are not normally allowed.
  7. Pay, then go back to your personal account to personalise the tickets.
  8. Download the tickets to your phone. You normally do not need to print them, but mobile signal in the gorge can be poor.
  9. Book the shuttle, train, parking or tour pickup separately.

You must reach the northern control gate at least 30 minutes before the time on your ticket. That is the time you must be at the gate; parking and the walk come before it.

Sold out? What to check before giving up

“Sold out” may apply to one time, one date or one ticket type, not to every way of booking.

First: try another official time on the same day, but skip a late slot that would put your return train at risk.

Second: check the dates either side. Flexibility helps you more than paying a large premium.

Third: look at the official guided category; its places are sold separately from general admission.

Fourth: check reputable guided-walk operators or full excursions, which may hold their own places. Confirm that entry is included for your exact date and time.

Fifth: look at the official experience packages, which combine admission with an activity run by an authorised local business. Their terms and availability are different.

Avoid informal resale, ticket offers on social media and sellers who claim they can get around the attraction’s limits. The official ticket site is the price to compare against.

Can you buy tickets at the entrance?

Do not count on it. The official visitor rules require booking in advance. Some official information mentions sales at a ticket office by the northern gate in certain circumstances, but no plan should depend on buying there. The gate is a walk from the road, so going there without a ticket can waste a lot of time.

Is there an official skip-the-line ticket?

General and guided admission are the two official categories. A third-party listing may advertise “priority access” or “guaranteed entry”, but it cannot exempt you from the timed entry and the safety checks. Pay for a service you will use. A vague promise of a better walkway or no queue is worth nothing at the gate.

How the one-way route changes the booking decision

Caminito del Rey runs one way, from the northern entrance near Ardales to the southern exit near El Chorro. The full walk is about 7.7–8 km including the access and exit paths and usually takes 3–4 hours. The controlled section through the gorge is about 3 km.

If you drive to the northern side, you usually need the shuttle back to your car after the walk. If you park at El Chorro, you take the shuttle north first and finish near your car. By train, you arrive at El Chorro–Caminito del Rey on the southern side, take the M-347 shuttle north, do the walk, and finish about 2 km from the station.

The shuttle day ticket is €2.50 and is not always included with admission. Bring cash if you plan to pay the driver. Check the winter timetable and Renfe trains for your date.

Winter cancellation and refund rules

The attraction can close for heavy rain, strong wind, rockfall risk or other safety problems. A bad forecast on its own does not count as a cancellation. Light or scattered rain may be allowed if management considers the route safe.

Official tickets normally cannot be refunded or changed because your plans change. When the operator announces a closure, direct buyers can use the closure procedure to ask for another available date or a refund of the admission fee. The deadline is four calendar days after the notice. Our guide to rain and wind closures explains how to check the status on the day, and we list the best alternatives if it is closed.

Third-party products have their own terms. A tour you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before departure may handle a same-day closure differently. Ask whether the whole price, transport included, is refunded. The attraction does not reimburse separate train tickets, hotels or parking.

In winter, clear cancellation terms can matter as much as a low price.

What time should you book?

A morning or late-morning slot is usually easiest in winter. It leaves time for the northern approach, the gorge, the southern exit and the journey back before dark. The official site sets entry windows by season; pick a slot from the calendar for your date.

From El Kiosko, the shorter approach to the gate is about 1.5 km, or 20–25 minutes, and the longer one about 2.7 km, or 35–50 minutes. You must also be at the control gate 30 minutes early. If you come by shuttle, add the ride and the wait. Do not buy a non-refundable ticket first and hope a train or shuttle will connect.

Age limits and accessibility

The minimum age is eight. Under-18s must be with an adult, and children need an original ID document or the Spanish family book as proof of age. Children under eight cannot enter. Do not assume a child discount unless the official site or your tour option shows one.

The route has steps, uneven ground, slopes and exposed heights. Wheelchairs and pushchairs cannot use it, and some walking aids are not allowed. If you have strong vertigo or a mobility or health condition, read the official rules before booking. A more expensive tour does not change what the walk asks of you.

Not automatically. The M-347 day ticket costs €2.50.

Do I need to print my ticket?

No. Every visitor is bound by a safety closure.

How do I get a refund after closure?

Follow the official process in your personal account within four calendar days of the closure notice, or the procedure of the seller you booked with.

Is there a separate ticket for the new bridge?

No. The 110-metre bridge added in June 2026 is part of the route, subject to operational instructions, and needs no separate ticket.

Final verdict: which ticket should you buy?

Official €10 general admission is the best value if you can arrange your own transport; without a car, a full excursion from Málaga is usually the easier choice. The official €18 guided ticket sits between the two and suits visitors who want the landscape explained. Check the calendar early, add up the full door-to-door cost and never pay extra for vague resale promises. In winter, look for clear cancellation terms as well as useful inclusions. For the day itself without a car, our guide to Caminito del Rey from Málaga in winter compares the train with the tours.
